On July 14 this year, another round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan took place in Ashgabat. The Turkmen delegation was led by Rashid Meredov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, while the Uzbek delegation was headed by Bakhtiyor Saidov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This was reported on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the consultations, the sides exchanged views on further strengthening the Turkmen-Uzbek strategic partnership. The importance of mutual visits and negotiations at the highest level was particularly highlighted as a key prerequisite for bilateral relations.
Special attention during the talks was paid to actively continuing the bilateral political dialogue, as well as coordinating cooperation within international and regional organizations, primarily the UN, CIS, OIC, the Economic Cooperation Organization, and the Non-Aligned Movement. The parties confirmed their readiness to provide mutual support on critical issues on the regional and global agenda.
In addition, the sides emphasized the importance of systematically improving the legal framework of interstate relations, as well as intensifying inter-parliamentary, interregional, and sectoral cooperation. The progress of preparations for international events scheduled to be held in Turkmenistan this year was also discussed.
In the trade and economic sphere, an agreement was reached to diversify mutual trade, expand investment ties, and improve the efficiency of the Joint Turkmen-Uzbek Intergovernmental Commission. Furthermore, key issues were identified for deepening cooperation in establishing transport and transit corridors, improving logistics infrastructure, and collaborating in industry, agriculture, energy, and the digital economy.
In the cultural and humanitarian sphere, the sides noted the positive dynamics of cooperation in education, science, culture, healthcare, youth policy, and sports, and reaffirmed their readiness to implement new joint projects.
Following the political consultations, the following bilateral documents were signed to strengthen the legal framework of the interstate partnership:
- Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Cooperation in Ensuring International Information Security;
- Cooperation Program between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2027–2028.
