On July 15, the delegation of Turkmenistan participated in the ECOSOC general debates during the High-Level Political Forum held at the UN Headquarters in New York. The delegation presented the country’s achievements in sustainable development and highlighted its key international initiatives, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The head of the delegation, Perhat Yagshyyev, emphasized in his speech that cooperation with the UN is a primary priority of Turkmenistan's foreign policy. Currently, 85% of the 2030 Agenda targets have already been integrated into the country's national and sectoral development programs.

Special focus was placed on environmental protection, rational water resource management, and climate change mitigation. Turkmenistan advocates for solving regional water issues based on universally recognized norms of international law and the interests of all regional states. In this context, the President of Turkmenistan's initiative to establish a Regional Center for Combating Desertification in Central Asia was highly emphasized.

The country is actively transitioning to a green economy and fulfilling its international commitments to reduce methane emissions. The "smart" city of Arkadag, built on the principles of sustainability, inclusivity, and ecological safety, was highlighted as a prime example. The city has been integrated into the OSCE project on sustainable and climate-resilient cities and has received several prestigious international awards and certificates.

Additionally, Turkmenistan continues to contribute to the development of landlocked countries and the resilience of global trade by implementing major transport and transit projects along the East-West and North-South corridors, including the Trans-Caspian route. During the forum, Turkmen representatives are studying international best practices to assist in preparing Turkmenistan's third Voluntary National Review, scheduled for presentation in 2027.
