26 March 2026
A wide range of issues related to the further development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union were discussed in Ashgabat. These matters were reviewed on March 25 during a meeting between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Mahri Bashimova, and the Head of the Unit for Central Asia and Afghanistan at the European Commission's Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA), Charlotte Adrian.
During the meeting, the parties also reviewed key issues of trade and economic cooperation. In this regard, the importance of developing transport and transit connectivity between Central Asia and the European Union was highlighted.
Cooperation in the energy sector occupied a special place on the negotiations' agenda. In particular, mutual interest was expressed in continuing the sectoral dialogue, including within the existing energy partnership format, as well as expanding cooperation in areas such as the "green" development agenda and climate change.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on cultural and humanitarian cooperation, discussing the implementation of several EU programs and projects in Turkmenistan and the region aimed at supporting youth, sustainable energy, trade, digital connectivity, and other sectors.
